Frequently Asked Questions
-
All our animals are raised on our family farm in Owosso, Michigan
-
A whole hog will usually hang between 160-200 lbs. Note that if you are purchasing a half hog, your hanging weight will be roughly half of that range.
-
Each quarter of a steer will hang around 200 lbs, give or take. Roughly 65-70% of that will be your packaged cuts.
-
After you place an order for a half, whole, or quarter animal, a member of our team will reach out and help you fill out a processing sheet where you can customize your cuts of meat.

Your meat is packaged by the cut and delivered to you frozen.
Once processed, the meat is frozen immediately to ensure freshness and remove the need for preservatives.

Our pigs are raised on a grain and mineral mixture, and our steers are raised on a primarily grain diet with some hay mixed in. We also have free range chickens on then property that provide us with eggs that we sell in person at our markets.
We grow the grain and hay ourselves without pesticides so you can be confident in knowing what exactly is being given to the animals.
-
Our beef is fed hay (grass) that is grown on our farm as well as grain that we also grow ourselves. Fully grass fed animals take a very long time to grow during harsh Michigan winters and lead to a tougher and drier cut of meat. We pride ourselves on the marbling in our steaks and the flavor of our hamburger and other cuts, which we can only achieve through both grass and grain diets.
-
In order for our meat to be certified organic we must certify the ground we grow our grain and hay on, as well as our seed and our animals which takes many years. It would also require us to process in a certified organic facility which unfortunately are few and far between in Michigan. So for the time being the short answer is no, but rest assured that we follow all best practices so you can know your food is being raised both ethically and humanely.
